I don't know what exactly it is about this photograph, but it really speaks to me. The mood you've created here is just amazing- very dark and almost ominous, like the gathering clouds before a storm.
It really impresses me how sharp everything is. The outlines of the rooftops against the clouds are especially nice. If they were just even a little blurred out it wouldn't be nearly as impressive. The colors are just lovely, too- very contrasty without being too artificial looking.
The composition is killer. Great use of the rule of thirds. I like how you've used the curve of the river to draw us into the photograph. It makes the photo seem more dynamic that way, giving it a sense of movement that evens out the squareness of the buildings.
At first I was a little distracted by the cars in the bottom left of the photo and almost wished they weren't there. But, looking at it further, I kind of like them. Like the boat on the right hand side, they create a sense of contrast between the old and the new and show the presence of humanity here that you wouldn't really get if it was just the houses. No, I can't really think of anything I would change here. It's beautiful.
